A Sampling of Thankful

Today is Thanksgiving. A day to spend with your family and to remember what you're thankful for.

Unless you're working retail. Because then it pretty much sucks.

I, for one, refuse to shop on Thanksgiving. Black Friday beginning at 3am was enough. But Black Friday on Thanksgiving? What is happening to society?

Anyway, here's a list of things I'm thankful for - in no particular order:

For the roof over my head.

To have not one, but three jobs to help keep that roof over my head, even if some days I still have nothing in the bank account.

My family.

My friends.

To have Boyfriend at my side.

The three kitties that enjoy snuggling (when they're not being giant pains in the ass).

For excedrin when I have a headache.

That I already owned a set of studded tires for this winter (it also allows me to save up for new regular tires next spring).

For my parents instilling a good work ethic and morals in me.

To those who teach me things.

For the really super nice IRS guy on the phone the other day. He took the time to help me figure out what I feared was a huge problem. Turned out to be nothing. (whew!)

That I love reading. I could have a much worse addiction.

No offense to Ferguson, MO, but I'm very thankful I live 2,000 miles from your city.

That none of my three jobs include working in retail or being a telemarketer.

That Mockingjay is in theaters. Because I cannot wait to see it!

And many, many more things.

Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving

And there was a nice lady at Applebees

Monday was a day off from work. (oh, in case I have yet to mention it, I found part-time work at a wedding/party rental place thanks to a cousin) Granny told me she had a doctor appointment and asked me to go with her to help her, as well as her physical therapy. Which meant that the day I had planned of staying home cleaning and getting stuff done wasn't going to happen. Which was fine, I didn't mind running around with Granny.

Granny and I made it to her doctor's office just in time - we had to drop W off at his place on our way - and I hauled Granny's wheel chair out of the trunk. Wheeled her up to the office and got her all checked in. Only to be told moments later that her appointment was for June 13th not May 13th. Sigh.

Back in the car we went. Her physical therapy wasn't until 2pm, and it's a half hour into town from the house, so we didn't want to drive all the way back home just to have to drive right back in. So we ran a couple little errands and the decided on a slightly early lunch at Applebees.

I wheeled Granny up to the front doors and was starting to wonder how I was going to get her in those heavy doors by myself (because Applebees' entrance is NOT handicap accessible, I don't care what anyone says. When a gal came out of the front door and held it open for me. I said, "Thank you!" She said, "I'll the inner door in just a second. I thought you might need a hand opening the doors." I told her thank you a few more times and told her how sweet she was. She then went back to her table to finish her meal.

Our waitress was sweet, but kinda kept forgetting about us. Took forever for her to come and take our order, we asked for extra salad dressing for our oriental chicken salads and we never got it, and I was sucking on my ice cubes before she showed back up so I could ask her for a refill, and then it took her forever to take our ticket with credit card.

After lunch Granny wanted to take her car to Les Schwab - they had rotated her tires before my parents left for the 5 week trip and now her car has a shimmy  once you hit 70 mph. Of course being Monday they were slammed, but the guy I spoke to assured me that they could have it done so Granny could still make her physical therapy appointment. It took them about 20 minutes just to put the car into a bay, and Granny was concerned about making her appointment. I assured her that we were only 10 minutes tops from where the appointment was. Right about 1:30 they pulled her car out of the bay and ten minutes later I pulled the car up to the front door for her. We were at her physical therapy place ten minutes after that.

A little over an hour later I pulled the car up to the front to get her loaded and she asked to stop somewhere for a fountain soda. And to go to the car wash.

Once home, it was time to clean house, cook dinner, and do the ironing. I didn't stop until about 9pm.

The high spot was the gal at Applebees, who opened the door for me and Granny. It's just so nice to know that there are such nice people out there who are happy to open a door for someone pushing someone else in a wheelchair. She didn't have to get up from her table, her meal, to open a door. I really appreciate her taking the one minute out of her day to hold open a door to help a couple of people. Thanks lady, whoever you are, you're an awesome person.

Blog Love!

I wish to thank my dear blogging friend over at Three Cats and My Coffee Cup bestowed upon me this wonderful Blog Award a couple weeks ago. Thank you my dear friend for passing it on to me.

And, of course, the usual routine that comes with such an honor. Here are some questions that come with this award, and of course those questions need answering.

1) My favorite color:   I have to say purple. It's also my birthstone color.

2) My favorite animal:  Horses. Dogs. Cats.

3) My favorite non-alcoholic drink:   Diet Pepsi

4) Facebook or Twitter:   Facebook. I don't get Twitter. lol

5) Do you prefer getting or giving presents?  Both!

6) Favorite day of the week:   Any day where I can sleep in. lol

7) My favorite flower:   Not a clue, really. Is that bad? I'd say roses but that's "so cliche".

8) My passion:  Jane Austen. Oh, wait, maybe that's obsession I'm thinking about. I get so confused sometimes. . .  lol

Now to pass this along…these 3 other bloggers I enjoy:

My dear friend Miss H - I have been a loyal follower of hers for a long time now, and will always be.

One Odd Duck - Inevitably I wind up laughing when reading her stuff. Sometimes uncontrollably.

According to Jewels - The girl is pretty amazing, I mean, she did do the Polar Bear Plunge, after all, among many other things!

My Very First Vlog (please be nice! lol)

So please bear with me here as my technotarded self decided to try my first Vlog. Ever. If the sounds moves faster than me, pausing it for a moment helped. Maybe someday I'll actually get the hang of this, but don't hold your breath.

Please don't laugh too hard at my sheer dorkiness. I'm a sensitive soul. lol

I'm such a technotard that I had to record it via YouTube, because it was going to take three days to upload any of the attempts I made on my own web cam recorder. I mean literally, I Googled it and did the math, and it was going to literally take 3 days. I don't know why, but if you do and want to help a poor girl out and dish out advice, I'm all ears. Or eyes. Whatever, you know what I mean.

Props go to my dear blogging friend, Jewels, for giving me the inspiration to go ahead with my first Vlog.

Award time!!

I'm nearly completely packed up. Mom came up to help me this past weekend. We tore down my bed frame (and I get to sleep on my mattresses on the floor . . . now my bedside tables actually fit my bed size lol), tore down my dining room table, cleaned and cleaned and loaded up a bunch of trash in her truck. My parents will be driving up on Friday afternoon and we'll be heading out Saturday morning.

It's sad leaving the area and my job at the vet center. I hate saying good-bye to everyone. They all wish me luck in my new adventures, but it's still tough.

My poor Miss Harriet is a bit discombobulated with her house being all messed up. But she's moved several times before and I know she'll be okay.

In other news, I was honored with a blog award from The Ginger Blog Man! Sending a huge thank over to him, and I hope you do pop over to visit his blog.

Here are the rules for the Liebster Award:

1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
2. Answer 11 questions the person giving the award has set for you.
3. Create 11 questions for the people you are giving this award to.
4. Choose 11 people to give the award to.
5. No tag backs.

11 Things About Me:

1. I hate coming up with random things about me because my mind always goes blank.
2. I don't like training new people because I don't like letting go of the control of the job duties; I want it done my way. lol
3. As sad as I am to move, I'm looking forward to my new adventures.
4. The Hunger Games DVD hasn't left my DVD player since I bought it a month ago. No I don't watch it every day, but um, enough.
5. I just read a book called "White Girl Problems" by Babe Walker and I have been shown (yet again) that there are people that are probably making society worse because it's "all about them" and never anyone else. Plus, if you can spend nearly $300,000 at Barney's you have too much money and time on your hands. Give me some of your money, I'll put it to good use.
6. As of Friday at 5pm, I'll be joining the ranks of the unemployed and job searching.
7. I despise being unemployed.
8. Thinking I may buy Dr. R a bag of corn nuts as a good-bye present. I gave him so much shit on Monday about his eating corn nuts just for me because he knows I hate the smell of them. I just know I'm going to get random texts from him saying, "I'm eating a corn nut just for you".
9. The new girl just tooted . . . pretty loudly. lol
10.  I would love to see Rascal Flatts in concert one day. I'm just hoping their tickets aren't $100 or more a pop because it's not worth it to see anyone for that price. Except maybe Il Divo. Because those boys are DE-LISH.
11. I still keep my Teddy Bear with me where ever I go. A couple gave him to my mom when they found out she was pregnant - they were regulars at the restaurant she worked at. She still keeps in contact with them.

My 11 Questions to Answer:

1. What is your preferred method of birth control? (for example own face, coke douche?): Well, abstinence works wonders. As do various other methods.
2. If you could have any super power what would it be and why? Even though I'm afraid of heights, I'd love to be able to fly. Because then I wouldn't have to pay $5/gal for gas.
3. What is your favorite music album of all time? Ohhh, that's a toughie. I know my favorite song of all time. Album? Oh geeze. I guess any album by Rascal Flatts, I love their stuff. Although Unstoppable wasn't my favorite album.
4. Do redheads have souls? Of course they do.
5. If you were on death-row (I'm sorry about this) what would you order as your last meal? A wee bit morbid, but BBQ pork ribs, macaroni salad, and garlic bread. And I want popcorn and M&M's for dessert.
6. PC or Mac? I've always owned a PC but eventually I would like to try to get a Mac.
7. Who is the most influential person in your life and why? I'm not sure any one person has been more influential than another. My parents, all of my grandparents, and my BFF are at the top of the list. Each for different reasons.
8. What is your favorite cartoon as an adult? I'm assuming you're referring to the ones on TV, and I don't watch cartoons anymore. But I will say that the old Looney Tunes from my childhood are the bestest ever.
9. Do you have any regrets?  Yes.
10. Would you like to own a monkey butler (assuming no animal rights were violated, leave me be PETA)? Isn't that how Planet of the Apes started? lol I'd probably be afraid the monkey would be smarter than me . . . so no. lol
11. How do you feel right now? A mix of emotions, actually.

(And I posted this having forgotten to make up 11 questions. Good grief.)

1. What is your favorite book of all time?
2. What is your least favorite thing to do when it comes to cleaning house?
3. Would you ever own a chicken (a live one)?
4. How do you handle those annoying sales calls?
5. What musical artist would you pay good money to see?
6.  Have you ever milked anything? (And breast feeding doesn't count lol)
7. If you were President, what is the first thing you would do?
8. In reality, would you ever be crazy enough to run for President?
9. Knowing what you know now, would you go back and change anything in your past?
10. Who do you think is the best super hero?
11. Have you ever broken a bone?

And the award goes to:

Award time!

I must send out a huge thank you to my fellow blogger and Postcard Campaign companion, The Cat and the Coffee Cup, for this award!!

The rules with this award are that I must tell you ten random things about myself, and then pass this on to six lucky bloggers. So here goes!

1. A couple months ago I came across an Easter card I had saved. I was glad I did. It's the last Easter card I received signed "Love, Granny and Granddad". Granddad passed away a couple months after I received this card. I will never throw away that card.

2. I'm currently reading What The Night Knows by Dean Koontz. It took me a bit to get into it because it's a bit creepy and dealt with things in mirrors. I don't do that well. lol

3. Every time I see icicles I think of my dear blogging friend, Jewels and her obsession with them. lol

4.  I love the movie Real Steel. I think I could totally get into robot boxing.

5. My mom used to make fun of me for how many candles I own. Then I moved to Sticksville, and she said I no longer have too many candles (in case the power goes out). The next time I was in Redding, I went to the Dollar Store and bought like another $20 worth of candles and holders. Seriously.

6. It's been snowing in Sticksville for three days, and probably got about 4 to 5 inches. I don't know for sure, because the high winds have made it drift so much. I wanted the snow, but the 30-60mph winds suck ass.

7. I nearly made a snowman at work this morning instead of cleaning. The only thing that stopped me was I didn't have snow gloves with me.

8. I got my mom obsessed with Lisa Scottoline's books. Like foaming at the mouth obsessed. lol

9. I about had a heart attack the last time I gassed up my car. Little shit had to make it to $50 for a fill-up. Of course, it didn't help that gas jumped to $4.25/gallon. My bet is that it'll make to $5/gallon easily by the time summer comes around. When I got my first car as a senior in high school, gas was freaking 99cents per gallon. God how I miss those days. With a vengeance.

10. I'm totally craving Round Table Pizza. If I had Hedwig, I'd totally send her out for pizza. Hehe.

And now to pass this off to six bloggers! And in no particular order they are:

A nice lil surprise

So, tonight I was sitting on my couch, trying to think of a blog post for today and it wasn't going so well. Until I got on Facebook to check out what was new. The first thing I saw was this Christmas present one of my good friends got:

I thought this was completely Awesome. Apparently it's called "The Ex". At least she'll get a good laugh every time she walks into her kitchen! I'm actually a little jealous . . . lol

The second thing was one of my friends started a chat with me. Now, this isn't new or anything, but the person who started the chat was the surprise. It was a guy I haven't talked to since high school, and even then I don't think we ever talked too much. We simply ran in different circles. But he had something nice to say, which made the surprise even nicer:

Guy: Hey country woman
Me: Hey there.
Guy: This is the most we've ever talked but I like Charlie Brown.
Me: lol Thank you
Guy: You get education, live in the city, then you realize you're country.
I just think that was so sweet. So, thank you Guy for taking the time to read my little blog.

I had a very uneventful New Year's Eve. I was in bed by 8:45 with lights out. I was tired. And since NYE really isn't my holiday, it didn't bother me one bit. Especially since I had to be out feeding at 7am. I worked on Saturday, which was NYE, and fortunately it was a nice easy day. Well, the afternoon was easy. At least until the tech noticed like 3 gray hairs and then pointed them out. Gee. Thanks.

I finally de-Christmased my house today. It looks naked. Suddenly I have this gaping hole where my tree was. It was the only day this week that I really had the time to take everything and pack it up, and drag my tree outside. My carpet was just covered in needles. I found a few stuck in my hair later, too. Oh well.

Oh, and I'm still drowning in cookies. OMG I have so many cookies left from Christmas. I may die of a sugar overdose.

Postcards and Thank You's

With everything else going on, I nearly forgot to send out a bloggy thank you to my friend Jewels for the postcard she sent this month. She hand-made hers, which I think rocks and makes them super-cool. I'm so not that talented!

If you're curious about the postcard campaign, there's a link at the top of the page. It's all about spreading some simple yet wonderful mailbox happiness. Seriously, who doesn't love getting something besides junk mail and bills? To sign up, shoot me an email with your information, and that's all you need to do. Each month I announce the next blogger on the list who gets to send out postcards for the next month. For those of us that receive the postcards, we write up a little thank you in a post, include a picture of the postcard if you wish, and also link to them and me. But . . . it's time to announce the next sender! For January, the next blogger to send out postcards is:

(I will send you the addresses on January 1st)

Also, for those participating in the Postcard campaign, you also found a little something extra in your mailboxes this month. I sent out Christmas cards to everyone on the list, and most of you guys have already sent me messages thanking me. I just wanted to send you guys a little extra thank you for joining me in the crazy idea I had this past summer. Without you, it doesn't exist. I am enjoying it immensely, and I hope all of you are, too.

And before I forget, my mother wanted me to tell all of you who have commented on the post about Libby's infection THANK YOU. Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and good mojo. Please keep it coming in hopes that our little Yorkie can walk normal again.

Awards Galore!

In the past week  Um, yeah, it's been much longer than a week. I apologize to the two bloggers have passed on awards to me, as I haven't had the time to post regularly in the past two or three weeks. So now I'm going to attempt these with their random facts and whatnot.

First up is the super-wonderful Frisky Virgin. I believe the only posts I don't really read are the ones about True Blood because it's a vampire thing and I don't do vampires. But I won't hold the fact that she likes vampires against her - everyone has to make their own mistakes. (wink wink) In truth, I love her blog as she makes me laugh out loud at the hilarious stories and anecdotes about her life. Her blog is a must-read.

The rules for these are to thank the blogger who gave it to you (see above) and reveal 7 random facts about yourself.

Okay, here goes.

1. The one thing I miss about living in the city is Target. I don't necessarily need to buy anything, but it can be fun to wander the store and make fun of items or think how great something else would be in your home, if only you had the space for it.

2. Surprisingly, what I don't miss about city living is all the fast food. The thought of McDonald's is no longer appealing.

3. I can't stand coffee, in any form. Walking into a Starbucks is like an assault on my poor innocent nostrils. The only thing I am willing to drink from there is hot chocolate.

4. There is a town in my county named after my family, who helped settle it in the late 1800s. I wrote up a history of the community for Papa D's paper, and it will be printed in the October issue. Once it's officially printed next week, I will post my article here on my blog.

5. I have this horrible habit of taking forever to get out of the house in the morning for any of my jobs. There are mornings I have to go from inside of car back inside the house 5 times to get something I forgot, then get to work at the vet's and realize I still forgot something. It's really sad. And exhausting.

6. I once took a spoonful of sugar to get rid of hiccups. My (good) college roommate said that's how she got rid of her hiccups. Normally I just drink 10 sips of water, and I can get them to go away. That time they didn't. I finally agreed to the spoonful of sugar, and it's disgusting. I gagged it down thinking she's totally messing with me. It totally worked. However, I keep it as a last resort.

7. My work station has to be kept clean. I can't stand a cluttered work area. My home, however, is not kept to the same standards. While I keep it picked up and clean it, I have far too much crap. But I'm totally anal-retentive about a work station. And that was why I hated rotating benches throughout the night at my old lab job - too many hands touching any given work station so I couldn't keep it set up how I liked it. If I'm working at a certain bench, you bet your sweet little tushy it will be set up my way.

OMG, that took forever. I'm not sure why, but it's so hard for me to come up with random facts. Sheesh.

The other award I received came from chocolateangel over at The Cat and the Coffee Cup. She is obviously a cat lover, and writes about her adorable kitties as well as her every day life - the good and the bad. Plus she has cute kitty pictures that will cheer you up on her blog.

I seriously hope that I can find everything that fits with the criteria for this award! Evidently I'm supposed to troll through my blogger stats to find my series of "most" posts. This could get interesting.

"Most Beautiful": My Granddad -  My post telling all of you about the wonderful, courageous man that was my Granddad, who passed away just four months ago.

"Most Helpful": It's Official - I'm Crazy! - It was very hard to admit how unhappy I was, living in Sacramento. But it was also very therapeutic getting it out there. Thank you all for "listening" to me and being supportive of my crazy decision!

"Most Controversial": It's Debatable - I got my very first (and only) Anonymous comment.

"Most Popular": For the life of me, I cannot understand why, according to blogger stats, this is my most viewed post. It was a "half-ass" post . . . Another Weekend, Another Half-Assed Post.

"Most Underrated": The first several posts regarding my old psycho college roommate, the Psycho Suzi series.

"Most Surprisingly Successful": The Postcard Campaign - I'm so happy and shocked that there are quite a few people participating!

"Most Pride-worthy": Where I explain my nickname, and the title of my blog.

Okay, seriously, this took FOREVER.

And I'm not going to sit here and agonize over who gets these awards. Seriously, because it is agonizing trying to choose. So, if you follow my blog and have a blog of your own, then these awards are for each and everyone of you! Take them and run away with them!

Next post will be the published story in our publication about the town my ancestors helped settle!

An Award For Me? Awww, Shucks.

Before I get to the awards, I would first like to welcome some new followers! A couple of them are also joining up for the Postcard Campaign, which is awesome! Just means more mailbox love! So thank you for following, hope you enjoy!

A little while ago, Jewels named me one of her Gems, in her post thanking those that helped to pimp out her new blog location. How could anyone not want to pimp out her blog? It's pretty awesome. Plus, she pimped out the Postcard Campaign, so that makes her even more awesome.

And the other day, Hazel gifted me the I Dig Your Blog Award. I'm just ecstatic that Hazel is blogging again as I missed her posts.

I know that there were no rules for Jewels' award, and Hazel didn't really mention too much about rules. So I will just mention three random facts about myself and then pass it on to three blogs.

I love Ansel Adams photography.
I once had a dream that Jennifer Love Hewitt made out with a guy I was dating, and the poor guy had no idea why I was mad at him for a week. I despised her for years.
I'm addicted to popcorn. It runs in the family. ;o)

And now for the blogs I will pass on the I Dig Your Blog Award to! Canadian Blogger Girl, The Adventures of Cinderita, and The Frisky Virgin.

Awards, Turn-On's, and a Music Video

I really hate to say this, but many times there just needs to be more hours in a day! For the last couple of days I've been wanting to blog, but there just doesn't always seem time. Maybe too many addictions? Too many jobs? Well, I can't necessarily say I have too many jobs, because the average person in this county has at least two jobs to make ends meet. Too many addictions . . . well, that's feasible. Reading, movies, Facebook (Farmville, Frontierville, etc.), blogging, Scrabble via email, harassing my cat . . . yeah, I'm screwed.

And today's post really won't even be what it was originally going to be. Partly because I've already forgotten what I was going to write about (and I'm not smart enough to blog in advance so that I have something to fall back on). But mostly it's because I was bestowed not one, but two awards!! Plus I have a few new followers to welcome.

So, first off, I'd like to welcome three new followers to my little corner of the blogosphere. I'd like to welcome (back) Hazel, who used to follow me under her old blog and has finally come to her senses to blog again! Next is Elliot MacLeod-Michael, and Deirdra Eden-Coppel, who not only followed but also bestowed an award! Actually, I'm twice blessed as she gave me a different blog award awhile back as well.

A huge thank you to Deirdra Eden-Coppel!

And to the wonderful Frisky Virgin, a huge thank you for the next award - The Blog on Fire Award! If you haven't checked Ms. Frisky yet, then I'm not quite sure what you're waiting for. That was a hint to, like, go. So, this award (like so many) have a few rules to follow.

1. Thank the blogger who bestowed the award - See above.

2. Reveal 5 things about yourself. (If you want, how about making said revelations a little hot? After all, this is an on fire award!)

    • Listening to anything, and I mean anything, by Josh Turner makes me melt. If I could marry his voice alone, believe me I'd so be there. It doesn't hurt that he has the good looks to go with said woman-melting voice.
    • I love me a good Wrangler-butt. I was taught by the best, my mother, to spot a really good Wrangler-butt. Anytime she and I are at a country concert, our eyes are on the prowl.
    • Certain colognes - Lord help me. Obsession and Stetson are just two of them. Pair that with a Wrangler-Butt who has Josh Turner's voice, there will only be a puddle of JDay left.
    • Accents - I love accents. Well, as long as I can still understand the words that are coming of their mouths. British, Irish, and Australian are my favorites. *swoon*
    • But most of all, what will do the trick is a guy who likes me for me. Quirks and all.
Now I get to pass this on to 7 fellow bloggers.

And to leave off, I am posting a video of a new release by Toby Keith that makes me tear up every time I hear it. I know America is having some issues on Capitol Hill and we would all love to tell them where to stuff their political bullshit and storm congress with pitchforks. I know our country looks like a fool to the rest of the world. Whatever happens next won't be pretty, I'm sure. But even with all this going on, I'm still proud to be an American, and wouldn't dream of living anywhere else.

The LOL Award

Well, Happy Monday to me! I was blessed with another award! A huge thank you goes out to Pencil Girl at Conquering the World to passing this on to me. She is one of my newer followers. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I know these awards are kinda silly, but it really means so much that folks I've never met like my ramblings enough to pass awards on to me. Really. And before I get all sappy emotional, I'll stop now.

This award comes with a couple rules:

1. Link back to the person who gave you the award.
2. Pass this award onto 7 other blogs who post about even slightly amusing things . . . and let them know.
3. Share 7 things about yourself.

Since I've already done the first one, here are the blogs I shall pass this onto (and in no particular order):

Just so y'all know, I hate choosing between all of you. Seriously. Oh and one more thing. Hazel over at Pablo's Angel . . . I was going to include her in the seven blogs, but her link said her blog no long existed. Picture a sad face.  Hazel, if you see this, you still get the award.  :o)  It's my blog and if I see fit to shell this out to 8 blogs versus 7, so be it.

Now, 7 things about me:

1. I am in love the TV show Psych.
2. My favorite blanket is the afghan my mom made me.
3. I have 3 weeks left at my job.
4. In winter I sleep with the electric blanket on, and two fans blowing on me.
5. I have never used the so-called fireplace in my apartment.
6. I despise touching other people's laundry. Even when I know it's clean.
7. I was in New York for 36 hours . . . way before 9/11 . . . and managed to get only one shot of the skyline from the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

I'm Stylin'

Several days ago, I was blessed with another award - thanks to On My Soapbox. She is new to the blogging world - well, to the actual blogging portion of it anyway. If you haven't checked her out yet, you should stop by and do so. Luckily for me, there isn't a long survey associated with this one! lol  There are just two simple rules:

1. Thank and link back to the blogger who gave you the award.
2. Share 5 things about yourself.

I've already done the thanking, here's to the sharing.
~ I've been a bridesmaid twice.
~ I have a weak spot for popcorn and M&Ms. A major one.
~ I will never eat sushi again. Once was one time too many.
~ My aunt is totally kicking my ass in online scrabble. With two and three letter words. It's embarrassing. lol
~ I despise coffee in all forms. It's gross.

There is no rule about how many blogs to pass it onto. I know that several blogs I follow, this award has already hit them, so I shall try to go outside our "usual circle".

I will pass this onto Milk..Two Sugars and Eccentric Lights and Nonsense Shadows. I'm fairly new to both blogs and thoroughly enjoy both.

Life Is Good!

Good News: Thanks to my wonderful blogging friend, Hazel, I have received a new award! Such wonderful news! Even though I knew about this award for a day or two, I'm finally getting around to posting about it. Thank you, Hazel, for being so kind as to bestow this award on my humble little blog.

As with many awards, there are rules to follow. I don't mind the rules, unlike some others who won't be named (*cough*Simple Dude*cough*). Sorry about all the coughing, I'm still getting over that nasty head cold that caught me off guard this week. Anyway, the rules are as follows:

#1 Firstly thank and link back to the blogger that gave you the award
#2 Answer the 10 survey questions
#3 Pass the award onto other bloggers you think are fantastic
#4 Contact the bloggers you've chosen to let them know about the award
I've already done the first one, so off to number two we go!
Q1.  If you blog anonymously, are you happy doing this? If you aren't anonymous, do you wish you started out anonymously so that you could be anonymous now?

I'm not anonymous, and I doubt I will ever be. There are some days I wish I was, but more often than not, I'm happy that my family and friends can come to me and say, "Hey I read your latest blog, and I really liked it". While I do understand why some folks keep their blogs anonymous, mine won't ever be so. I will, however, sometimes try to keep others anonymous that I talk about. Either because I'm complaining about them or I'm trying to protect them. Or myself.

Q2.  Describe an incident that shows your inner stubborn side.
Any day I work with my boss. For those that know me, my inner stubborn side is actually far more exterior. I am stubborn and proud of it. Lets take last night for instance. We have on loan or for use to see if we want to purchase this thing called an "Uncapper". It does exactly what it says in it's name: it uncaps serum tubes for us. Now, this is great. In theory. Here's reality: I am on the Chem bench - I pick up my samples from all the different processing stations and take them to our "drop off table" and place them in the racks for our chem machine. I then take those racks to my station, and uncap them one by one. While I'm touching each sample, I'm evaluating it to see if it's short in volume, if it's needs to be centrifuged because it looks like a freaking milkshake, or if there are clots in the sample. This takes a split second as I'm uncapping the sample. Once the racks are uncapped, I stick them on the analyzer and hit start. Now, if we use the "uncapper", I have to pick up my samples from all the processing stations, and at the drop off table, I then load them in racks with special holding tubes - align everything for the uncapper - then wait while the machine uncaps my stuff - then I have to take all these open samples to my station (the likelihood of me spilling stuff more often this way is huge) and then reload them in my analyzers racks and still have to check them for all the other stuff. It doesn't help and it's just one more step I have to take. It's a pain in my ass. I told my boss so and that I wouldn't be using it. At all. She kept insisting that I use it. I told her, "It's nice in theory, but it's more work than it's worth. I'm not using it. Ever." (Besides, what are they going to do? Fire me?) Long story short. But my work takes some explaining. My fingers are tired now.

Q3. What do you really see when you look at yourself in the mirror?
A good person. Sometimes I'm pretty. Sometimes I'm not quite so pretty. But I know that I'm looking at a person with a good heart and soul. And that's always beautiful.

Q4. What is your favorite summer cold drink?
Um. I have no idea. I drink water and soda throughout the year. Sometimes I'll drink lemonade in the summer. I love a good sno-cone though. And those aren't exactly winter items.

Q5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?
Couch time with the kitty. My cat is a serious lap-lover, and she has a tendency to not see my lap much during the week as I have my laptop on my lap . . . or I'm sleeping the day away. I'll curl up on the couch and she's on me all day. She loves it. And I love hearing her purr in my ears. But I love to catch up on my reading, too. Or find a way to hang out with my BFF.

Q6. Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life?
I would love to travel more - however, that requires one of two things: money or a sugar-daddy. Since I have neither, traveling much isn't much of an option. Otherwise, I want a marriage and a family of my own. Simple.

Q7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching?
The thing to understand about my high school was that there was nowhere to ditch. Literally. We were plopped in the middle of cattle pasture. I'm so not kidding. I was the shy person in high school. When it came to college, I was still mostly the shy person. I was never really an overachiever - I had goals, but I never let them get out of reach. And I may be funny, but not enough to be the class clown.
Q8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment in your life, what would you see?
The passing of my Great-Grandma. I was 26 years old when she passed away. I was blessed with so many years with her. Not many people get to know their great-grandparents; some don't even get to know their grandparents. She was in the hospital for a month before she passed, and it was a long haul. At one point the doctors were almost forced to send her home unless she consented to surgery to make her feel comfortable. The way she would have died at home bothered me to no end. I was so angry. I could not understand how God could let people die like that; no one should ever have to go through that. She finally consented to surgery, and she was able to stay in the hospital. When I was finally able to go see her, she wasn't lucid. She had no idea who I was; I couldn't even hug her good-bye. She was clutching her hairbrush, claiming she "wasn't going to let go because it was her sanity". That was Father's Day weekend. A week later she passed away in her sleep, just as everyone should Her funeral was held on my Granddad's birthday.

Q9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog, or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?
Depends on the topic or situation. Some things I will probably never share. Some things I will divulge only so much. It was hard for me to write the answer to the last question, because I always cry when I talk about my last visit with Grandma - and it's been 4 years.
Q10. If you had the choice to sit down and read a book or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?
I love doing both! I immensely enjoy reading, and finding time to just read for the day is relaxing to me. I love camping because often as a kid I would just sit and read and read and read. Now I'm old and need mini-breaks to keep from being stiff the next day, but I still love it. And I enjoy talking on the phone. It's wonderful to hear from an old friend or even a current one when you're separated by long distances. Emails are good, too, but listening to their voice as they describe what's happening with their lives is so much better! If I can't be sitting at a table with you, the next best thing is hearing your voice. And sometimes, that's all you need - to hear someone's voice.

And now to pass on the award to other blogs I find fantastic!

Hi, Boss? Here's my two month's notice . . .

It's now officially official - I've given notice to everyone. Well, except my apartment, but that will come just after the holidays.

If you missed my rant on the anonymous jackwagon that leaked out to management about my leaving, please click here.

My supervisor asked to speak with me on Wednesday night, turns out, it was regarding this "rumor" she had heard. I sat down, and told her everything . . . well, not about my blog or anything, but that the rumor was true. She blamed Facebook; the fact that I put everything on Facebook seemed to be the evil factor in all of this. Anyway, she was rather Zen about it. She was totally fine with it. I think she was more worried that I was uncomfortable talking to her, which wasn't he case. After working there for six years, I sorta figured I'd get the "You're leaving me?" line, but other than that, I was just planning on waiting until after the holidays.

Turns out, another gal put in her notice the same night. My poor supervisor.
I've told my volunteer gigs, as well. At Saddle Pals, they were shocked and wanted to know all the gory details. And the instructor told me I couldn't leave until February 18th, as that's the last day of the next session. Another gal at Saddle Pals told me that if I needed any help whatsoever, to call her and she'd be there in an instant. I told her I will welcome any and all friendly faces that wish to come visit me in Sticksville, USA.

At Homeward Bound, Jody (the gal who runs it), was so excited for me, she hugged me. Two other volunteers that were there heard everything as well, and were both excited for me. Jody has heard me talk of the ranch before, and knows how much I love it up there, and knows that that is where I wish to be. She also has requested I send her pictures.

As scared as I am of this huge shift in my life, I'm welcoming it. All of the support has been overwhelming. My family, though a bit shocked by my announcement at Thanksgiving, gave me wishes of good luck and encouragement. My best friend, while fully understanding my dislike of being 8 hours away from her instead of 2, knows I'm not a city girl and has assured me that nothing will ever change between us. My co-workers have all wished me well, and know that I am moving on and up in my life and only want to stay in touch. Several have offered their homes to me as my hotel when I come to visit. While I fear I will fall on my face in a big steaming pile of cow shit, I wonder if I can ever fail if I'm supported by so many?

The votes were unanimous in my going up there. Not a single person said I was wrong for even considering it. Those who know me know that I don't like city life. Sacramento is 400,00 people. That's about 350,000 more than I'm comfortable with. Even my boss was supportive and answered questions I had about my 401k or my vacation time that will be paid out. Every single person I know that spoke out, whether on Facebook or my wonderful peeps in the blogoshpere, showed me nothing but love and support.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. While I'm sure I would have made the same decision even if all the naysayers showed up, I'm so thankful that none of them did.

After 6.5 years, I'm finally getting myself a day job.

Tis the Season for the Blog Lovin'

I truly love when I check up on my blogs in the morning after work and find that someone was generous enough to pass around an award. Especially when someone played Oprah and gave all of her followers the award. Canadian Blogger Girl was generous to give this award to everyone.

This award has one condition: to pimp CBG's blog. So here's my plug: go check out her blog, you won't be sorry!

And now it's my turn to play Oprah (yes, I'm stealing CBG's idea). I never do like having to choose which blogs to pass awards on to, because then I feel like a git for not passing it on to everyone. I enjoy all of your blogs, and I appreciate you taking the time out to read my rambles. And I will keep the rule that CBG had, just pimp my blog and pass on the blog love to whomever you wish.

Being Thankful

This year I was not fortunate enough to get my request in early enough to get real time off for Thanksgiving. Someone else beat me to it, and since we're short staffed all the time - when one person is on vacation, everyone else gets to work. So, I still have one more night of work before I can head off to my parents house to put myself into a turkey coma.

However, I wanted to get all kinds of sentimental, considering it is Thanksgiving and all. Basically, I wanted to talk a bit about what I am thankful for.
Of course, first comes my family. I am blessed with a family that I couldn't live without. Now, as with every family, we have drama, conflict, and issues, but even so I love them with all my heart. They are always there for me, even when I'm not sure I deserve it. And with current options sitting in front of me (go here and here or further details), they've been nothing but supportive and only want what makes me happy. Many family members I don't get to see very often due to the physical distance between us, and I thoroughly enjoy any real time I get to spend with them. For instance, my younger cousin who is attending University of Washington will be down for the holiday. She grew up in Georgia, 3000 miles away from all her CA family. Hopefully on Friday she and I can steal a couple hours to ourselves to go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 1), seeing as we are the only two people in our family who love the series. All in all, however dysfunctional we all are, my family is my world.

My friends. I am an one of those people that has a few very close friends. People that know me as well as I know them. My bestest is a girl I've known since we were juniors in high school. We clicked on a certain level and have never once looked back. We understand each other and accept each other. Including the flaws.  And she's still willing to hang out with me in public. She's definitely a keeper. We've had many conversations that end with us laughing hard enough to make us cry, and conversations that where each of us were crying on each others shoulders. My other friends, though not labeled as the "bestest" are no less important. One of my friends, whom I have known for about 22 years (and our mothers have been besties for over 40 years!), has come to my aid at the last minute, even via text message. Awhile back I was in tears over something and didn't know who to ask for help. I texted her and she convinced me I wasn't completely insane and fully understood my "issue". After several texts I was feeling better and had she been there in person, I would have hugged her til her eyes popped out. Even if I don't hang out with them all the time, they always make me smile, laugh, and just feel good. Without friends I wouldn't have made it through living with Suzi or several rough nights at work.

As often as it annoys me or downright pisses me off, I am thankful for my job. It's allowed me to be independent. It pays my bills. It has taught me things. Sometimes I think it teaches me to make up new curse words. But especially, in this economy, I am thankful to have a decent paying job that allows me to keep my car and a roof over my head and food in my fridge. Even if it does give me a knot in my shoulder and a skin irritation from the "personal protection equipment" I'm supposed to use.

A bit of the silly here - I'm also thankful for my cat. Even though she cost me a few hundred dollars a few months ago in vet bills, she's my little snuggle-bug of a lap cat. It's nice to come home to have it not be empty. Not that she's great at giving advice or anything, but it's nice to know I'm completely alone in my apartment. On my days off, I enjoy laying on the couch, cat cuddle on my lap or right next to me, purring in my ear.

I am also thankful for opportunities I've had. Usually thanks to help from my family, without whom I wouldn't have been able to have. They helped me afford to go on my internship to Florida and be unemployed for 9 weeks. I would do it again in a heartbeat. They helped me to afford to go on a 3 week back East trip in high school for government. One day I would love to be able to retrace that trip. They helped me afford plane tickets to see my college boyfriend, and I was able to get to see parts of Montana and Colorado. My wonderful trip to the very first Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA where my good friend and I finally got to see George Strait. The Nickelback concert last year that was probably one of the funnest concerts ever, and I got to go with a large group of great friends. The tribute Santa Rosa did to Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, that my mom and I attended on our last mother/daughter trip. The cruise my mom and I took when I was a senior in high school.  Going to Chicago for work. Visiting family in Georgia. Being a bridesmaid in the weddings of two wonderful friends. Things like that.

I'm not only thankful for any or all of these items at Thanksgiving. I'm always thankful for them. I'm always thankful for the people in my life. And what they help me accomplish. For that, I am truly blessed.

Have a happy and wonderful turkey coma everyone. (And if you're vegetarian, have a wonderful tofurkey  coma).
