Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Summertime is a season of reunions, weddings, and other family celebrations and gatherings...are any of the above on your calendar in the next two months?

Yep! On Friday, I have family from Georgia coming to visit for about a week. And in July, I have a cousin getting married (he asked her to marry him 35 years ago, and she said no because he wasn't a member of the Mormon Church. He recently moved back to Redding, met up with her and started dating, he asked again and she said yes [she hasn't been a practicing Mormon in a long time]).

2. June is National Iced Tea Month...are you an iced tea drinker? If so, how do you like yours (sweet, flavored, etc)?

Not really. Raspberry flavored iced tea is okay, but otherwise, I'm just not a tea drinker.

3. When were you last nervous?  Looking back, was the 'event' actually nerve-worthy?

A job interview I had  awhile back. I'm always nervous for those. And I think you should be a little nervous for a job interview.

4. The bristle toothbrush was invented in China on June 26, 1498...not sure how that date was pinned down so precisely but, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being sick to your stomach and 1 being not at all, how nervous do you feel when you're headed to the dentist?  Do you see your dentist twice a year?

Yeah, that is a bit odd how they have a specific date for that. lol I'm not too nervous when I go to the dentist. I used to go twice a year, but then I left my job that had benefits, and it's been a year and a half since I've been. I just don't have the money to pay for a cleaning, but I really want one. I usually get lectured for not flossing like I should.

5. What's making news in your town this week?

 Here are tonight's headlines:

One person dies, 5 year old suffers trauma in crash.
Baseball franchise effort for Redding falls through.
Skeletal remains unearthed by Tehama County detectives.
Controversial cable company may file for bankruptcy; Tehama County customers also dropped.
Heat expected this week in Redding.

6. Curtains, drapes, blinds...your window treatment of choice? Are there any bare windows in your house? Is that by choice or because you haven't gotten around to covering them?

A combination of those. At my parents house, there are blinds and curtains on most of the windows. I think the laundry room window is the only one without anything on it.

7. Summertime is officially here (in the Northern hemisphere anyway)...what one song is a must-have on your summer playlist?

It's just a fun song. :)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I spent yesterday evening at a friend's house, trying to help her figure out her wedding invitations. She had no idea what she wanted, so Mom and I went over there to help her out. Her big sister also showed up to help out, and we had Panda Express for dinner. After about three and a half hours, I think we finally got her a template to go off of, something she really liked. A big shout-out to Google Image Search as well. Good thing we got it figured out (for the most part, at least), because her invitations will need to go out in August. It's closer than you think!

    1. Especially when you remember that there are probably 200 people applying for the position and you're totally being judged. lol

  2. 1. Some, but too poor to attend.
    2. Let me make one thing perfectly clear- tea sucks.
    3. Ditto.
    4. Three times in the last40 years I've seen a dentist. Maybe not the best of teeth, but I've only lost one!
    5. Man gets stabbed in broad daylight downtown; still looking for skin tag that shot the good humor man last week.

6.I let Laurie worry that one. I'm easy.

    7.Anything Beach Boys.

    8. Yes, I think the people bashing Paula Deen need to acquire a life.

    1. Luckily I don't think I have to bring a gift to my cousin's wedding - they already have everything they need. And yes, those people do need lives - there are more important things in this world that the random sayings and words the woman was raised around.

  3. August is closer than you think-just last night my husband mentioned our July 4th plans which I felt like were a long ways off, and he reminded me it's next week. Yikes! Where did June go?? Great song-I'm a Blake Shelton fan too.

  4. I love the Blake Shelton song! Chew tobacc-a, chew tobacc-a, chew tobacc-a - spit! And it's news that Redding is hot?? I think not! when we lived there the summer temps were often in the low 100's (but it's a "dry" heat! ha)

    1. It's been muggy as all get out around here with the storms we've had recently. And it sucks!

    1. Yep. They both moved on to their own lives, marriages and kids and divorces. And now they finally get to their chapter together.

And yes, all the negative headlines are quite depressing.

  7. What a fun love story - so glad they are back together! And you're right, that IS a fun song! I married myself a good 'ol country boy even though I am born and raised an LA city girl... :-)

  8. 1} Bristol Renaissance Faire in Wisconsin. We went there for the first time back in 2007, and I loved it.
2} I have to really be in the mood for tea, either green, mint, or raspberry flavor. Usually hot, so it's more of a winter beverage for me. (yet, I can drink coffee year-round)
3} The interview for my current job. As it was outside of my field of experience, I was VERY nervous.
4} I'm indifferent about going to the dentist. But as I have no affordable insurance, my trips are "as needed".
5} My town is really small, and not much goes on around here. Nearby cities are a different story, though.
    - Outstanding students honored at banquet
    - 911 calls spike during Monday's storm
    - Union Mills explosion remains under investigation
6} Vertical blinds, which I really don't care for. Prefer curtains.
7} Whatever I happen to be in the mood for, I guess. There's really no one song that defines summer to me.
8} People who lack good sense really annoy me. Like the ones who don't listen to what they are told. For example: client walks their dog in to the clinic AFTER they've been told to keep it in their vehicle and to wait for a vet tech because the dog may be Parvo positive! Not only are they potentially endangering other client's dogs, but giving me extra work to do - because I have to go through and bleach every surface that dog came into contact with. Not only does it annoy me, but it infuriates the owner/head vet to no end. Because that could be a potential liability for the clinic and him as well.

    1. OMG those kinds of people are SO annoying! Never mind the employees have to bleach everything they touch. So aggravating!

  9. It's good that you and your mom helped out your friends with wedding invitations...and I bet it was fun too. Oh ya, I understand the 'no benefits' dilemma. And the use of your local headlines was a great idea!!!

    1. The story is that my friend's mom will help me with my wedding whenever that happens, since my mom is helping with hers and has helped with her older daughters. lol
