A Sampling of Thankful

Today is Thanksgiving. A day to spend with your family and to remember what you're thankful for.

Unless you're working retail. Because then it pretty much sucks.

I, for one, refuse to shop on Thanksgiving. Black Friday beginning at 3am was enough. But Black Friday on Thanksgiving? What is happening to society?

Anyway, here's a list of things I'm thankful for - in no particular order:

For the roof over my head.

To have not one, but three jobs to help keep that roof over my head, even if some days I still have nothing in the bank account.

My family.

My friends.

To have Boyfriend at my side.

The three kitties that enjoy snuggling (when they're not being giant pains in the ass).

For excedrin when I have a headache.

That I already owned a set of studded tires for this winter (it also allows me to save up for new regular tires next spring).

For my parents instilling a good work ethic and morals in me.

To those who teach me things.

For the really super nice IRS guy on the phone the other day. He took the time to help me figure out what I feared was a huge problem. Turned out to be nothing. (whew!)

That I love reading. I could have a much worse addiction.

No offense to Ferguson, MO, but I'm very thankful I live 2,000 miles from your city.

That none of my three jobs include working in retail or being a telemarketer.

That Mockingjay is in theaters. Because I cannot wait to see it!

And many, many more things.

Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving

  1. That is a nice post, much like my own yesterday (lol!). I am thankful for most of the same things you are, with exceptions of the three jobs, BF, and Mockingjay, which do not apply to me. Have a great day!

  2. Ironically, I am thankful I got sick.

It's given me a new perspective on my importance in my family and that I am WAY too loyal to my job, which, while I am thankful I have it, would have survived just fine had I not worked the day after all this started and made myself sicker. I am also happy that being out sick for 6 weeks allowed me the time off to do the things I otherwise would not have gotten time off approved for... Oldest's birthday, Thanksgiving break with them, finishing the Christmas shopping, etc. And hey!, now I have one less organ to worry about. :)

    1. Things like that have a way of putting things into perspective. Which is usually a good thing. And I'm glad you were able to get things done and have time off that you probably wouldn't have been able to get off.

  3. I love this list! I feel the same way about the tragedies lately, not just MO but all over. I'm thankful I'm still shocked by every occurrence and that I don't live in a place where it happens all the time. So sad.
I'm glad you have work, sorry that you have to have THREE jobs. My parents always had 2 or 3 jobs, my dad was always looking for work building/fixing/helping, he was like a salesman, asking people if they needed help. He made me realize that as long as the bills are paid, it doesn't really matter what you have to do to get it done.
I'm happy about Mockingjay, we got a sitter and saw it in the theater, which we rarely do. I loved the books, it's great to see someone bring that world to life. The book is always better, but it's still amazing to see something like that fleshed out. The Harry Potter movies were amazing, for example.
Glad you had a good Thanksgiving!

    1. Thanks! One day I hope to not have to have three jobs. As long things work out, two jobs would eventually become one job, but it's still at least a couple years away. I finally got to see Mockingjay and I loved it. Cannot wait until part two, although I'm really upset that they are making me wait a WHOLE year! lol At least HP only made me wait six months for their part two. lol
