Wednesday Hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/

1. What is something you'll never forget about the age you are right now?

Probably the struggle of unemployment, job hunting, meeting Boyfriend, and how wonderful my family and friends have been to me through everything. Also, while I'm unhappy on the full-time job front, I am happy on the relationship front.

2. What's a household chore you've never done? How have you managed that???

Let's see . . . I vacuum, dust, clean the bathroom (including the toilet and by the way boys are gross  lol), sweep, mop, do windows/mirrors, do laundry, clean out the fridge, clean out the fire place, clean off the back porch and do the dishes. I even feed and water the chickens, collect the eggs, let the chickens out in the morning and lock them up at night. I also feed and water the cats and clean out the litter boxes twice a day. I have even watered the frogs - I will not feed them, however. I also bring would up to the back porch and made kindling (and I still have all my fingers!). I even iron clothes when necessary (although now that Grandma moved out I will have to break down and actually buy an ironing board at some point lol) What's left? If there's something left . . . it probably means I make it Boyfriend's duty. ;o)

3. Does nature shape our personalities more than nurture? Explain?

I think it can depend on the situation. But both are important in shaping who all of us become, however.

4. Friday (February 28th) is 'Something on a Stick Day'...funny because Zoanna over at A Penchant for Pens recently sent me an idea for a question relating to this topic. What's your favorite food eaten on a stick?

Corndog. Hands down. Especially a fair corndog. Oh yeah. :o)

5. Which of your five senses do you treasure most, and why?

Ooooh. That's tough. I think sight. I've seen some wonderful things and places and there are still many more I want to see.

6. What's the best music, theatre, or sporting venue you've been to? What made it great?

Locally I would say the Cascade Theater in town. In it's early years it was a hot spot for Hollywood movie stars (seriously). Eventually it ceased to be that; when I was a kid it was the dollar movies - 4 screens. A few years ago it was restored to it's former glory and it's ah-mazing what had be covered up with wall paper and paint over the years. It's a beautiful theater and it's a great, small, local venue for concerts, plays and comedians. Boyfriend and I saw Diamond Rio there in November and recently Lonestar for my birthday.

They found such beautiful artwork under all the layers of wall paper and paint and were able to restore it. It had been a dingy building for so long, and unused for an long period of time. Now it attracts big names like Lonestar, Bill Cosby, and many more that I have no idea who they are! lol

 7. It's the last week of the month...in five words or less bid adieu to your February.

Thanks for the memories.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Two months of unemployment, a few interviews but so far, no takers. Oy ve. I've turned into a housewife without the wife part. lol  I bake cookies, take care of the house, run errands, job hunt, work on the weekends and a little during the week for my grandparents magazine, and pack a little here and there (we still don't know where we're moving to so packing is random). But it is nice that Boyfriend's Grandma has moved out as now we can just be us and we don't have to worry about how much noise we make in the kitchen cooking and cleaning while she's asleep at 7:30.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Are we always responsible for our actions? Are there any exceptions?

I think there can be extenuating circumstances. But for the most part, I do believe we are responsible for our actions.

2.  Has anyone from your home town become famous?

The most notable was Ashley Parker Angel from that show Making the Band. Redding was so proud of itself that somebody from this town made it in the band.

3. January was National Slow Cooker month. Do you own a slow cooker/crock pot? Did you use it last month? What's a favorite dish you make using a slow cooker or crock pot?

I do own a crock pot. I think it's been used once or twice. By Boyfriend. And I had probably had it a couple of years . . . collecting dust. Obviously not much of a cook am I. lol

4. How do you feel about private companies collecting data about you?

The word "creepy" comes to mind. It's one thing if Target collects my shopping data so they can send me coupons for cat litter or hair gel or something. But the fact that companies sell or "rent" out people's information is just scandalous in my opinion.

5. The Games of the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off with their opening ceremony this coming Friday....will you be watching? Which Winter Olympic event would you most like to see in person? Have you ever been to Russia? Any desire to go, Olympics or otherwise?

Probably not. With the time difference from Russia, it would be my luck that the few things I enjoy watching (ice skating mostly) would be on at 2 a.m. I will be fast asleep next to my own personal furnace (aka Boyfriend). I'd love to watch the ice skaters in person, but I do enjoy it on TV because I can actually see what's happening whereas in person I'd see a dot moving around on ice. lol I have never been to Russia, although part of me would like to go one day - the history buff in me anyway. But I have other places I'd like to go first.

6. Share a good or bad sports related memory from your childhood or teen years.

Once in 6th grade PE, we were playing volleyball. Our class was co-ed, and one of the boys hit the ball and it (purely by accident) came at me and hit me square in the  . . . um . . . chest. He had been right next to me and he hit it pretty hard. While everyone else was laughing their butts off at my chest pain, he was the only one who was genuinely concerned. He didn't touch me but he ran right up to me apologizing profusely. He apologized every day for rest of the week. Multiple times a day. I finally had to tell him I wasn't mad at him and that I had forgiven him the accident.

7. What's a must have song for you on a work out play list? If you don't work out, run, swim, bike, walk, or anything else that could be construed as 'exercise', then what's a song that movtivates you to at least get up off the couch?

Anything upbeat.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

So far in my month of unemployment I have read 7 books, submitted 30 or more job applications, cleaned, done laundry, baked cookies, brought firewood up to the house, have looked into online schooling for medical transcription (still kinda pricey), begun watching season 7 of Psych (which my BFF gave me for Christmas and am finally getting around to), begun packing but have since quit since I we have no idea where we're going yet, spent quality time my cat Miss Harriet, begun playing Farmville 2 and Castleville again on the computer, and have fairly successfully hid from Boyfriend's Grandma (which I only have to do until the 11th). I am however, beginning to run out of things to keep me occupied. Especially free things. Sigh.
