Peek-a-boo, I see you!

Like so many others out there these days, I have been attempting the world of online dating. With my hours it's hard for me to meet just about anyone, except maybe the checkout person at a store. Or my co-workers. It's sad, really. Graveyard shift can really hamper one's ability to meet people. Shyness can also be a factor. A large one.

I've tried Match.com, Chemistry.com, and eHarmony, all with minimal results. Actually, the first two with no results whatsoever. I had nothing happen on Chemistry, and on Match I had a couple guys contact me - a text message in a e-mail. Seriously folks, if you want to try to impress anyone, don't send an "e-mail" with a message akin to "Hey, ur a qt". That will get you pretty much nowhere. I've met a few people from the last option, eHarmony. They've all been very nice guys, just didn't work out for whatever reasons. Most were amicable, neither really that upset with the other. Only one of those guys did I actually shed tears over.

I'm currently trying again for a few months, after a few months hiatus. And I have one major beef with those guys who try the online dating scene. Pretty much every single online dating service has an option that allows you to see who has viewed your profile. This is pretty handy for the new game of "peek-a-boo" people seem to want to play. I send a "communication" to someone, and then for several days or even weeks, I get to play "peek-a-boo" with them. Sometimes they respond to the "communication", sometimes they don't. But I can tell that every few days they're viewing my profile, but I don't hear from them. This round of online dating I've noticed this trend has become common practice.

Seriously guys, grow a pair and either close the match or respond. You're not winning any brownie points by viewing me several times a week. You could, however, earn brownie points for actually communicating with me. If we meet and it doesn't work out, bummer, but that's okay. It's not as big of a deal as one might think. And please, don't think I don't know what the other option is: I'm a back-up if the dozen women you are communicating with don't work out. Just remember one thing, if you can see me then that means . . .

Dude, I can see you, too.

So quit acting like a toddler and quit playing "peek-a-boo".

  1. Hahaha this cracked me up since I know just what you are talking about. I made a promise to myself to respond to each and every email (even the lame ones) out of sheer human kindness...but some of the guys like to play games. I almost felt they were checking my page every few days but waiting for better options and when they didn't get them I would finally get a response to my communication and I was supposed to what? swoon? I think not.
Love that you titled it "peek-a-boo"...I never thought of it that way but thats absolutely what it is!!

  2. Jewels - isn't just pathetic?? LOL One guy ages ago kept taking forever to reply to me. I had no interest in him, but I made it to the emailing part, and asked him point blank why it took him a month to respond to me each time. His answer? He was only there for the free communication weekends! This was a guy who was a professor with published text books. Cheap ASS. LOL

  3. Hi J.Day, Thanks for the blog love! It makes my day to discover new readers and their blogs.

The topic of online dating makes my head spin. There are a couple posts up on my blog dedicated to this rather delightful(not!)topic. I only ventured into this territory for about a few weeks and what I found was just shocking. Perhaps one day I will recount some of those stories on my blog. But talk about the pervs and freaks that are trolling around out there. Yikes!

Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Have a great rest of the week!

  4. Haha. Free weekends are when your mailbox blows up but you can never actually talk to them after that. It's for the non-committed to committment. If you want to find somebody then take an active role...don't wait for free weekends...or do and save those who are really looking for something special the bother. Then again, as per my blogs on internet dating, I'm not going to travel back into those circles without Hell freezing over first!

  5. @Empress - I'm enjoying finding new blogs here and there. I'm still rather new at all this. I agree with you, there are definitely some trolls out there when it comes to online dating!

@Jewels - Online dating seriously IS it's own circle of Hell, isn't it?? OMG, I knew it! LOL What's even worse, is you can go months with nothing, then wham, you're slammed with everyone wanting to email you. Right now I'm going through the former. LOL
